He didn’t recognize himself at first, his eyes were swollen and itchy, yet sunken in and dull at the same time. He yanked the faucet handle over to the cold water side and cupped his hands beneath it, submerging his face in the small pool of water that collected. When he looked in the mirror again, he was perfectly normal.

He took a few steadying breaths, and pulled his phone out of his pocket. He opened his calendar app and checked the date.

“Saturday.” He whispered to his reflection. “You haven’t slept since Wednesday. You’re okay, you’re just tired.” His mirrored self didn’t look too convinced.
