I ADORE most of the famous recs going round on the lists (no shade here!), but I have also read other works and series on AO3 that deserve love and, following up on @generallyhuxurious‘s post, have put together a list. I haven’t included anything with
1000+ kudos on AO3 (most of these have far less), because I figure you all know those ones. I have only included completed works that I consider well-written (I am very First-Order about grammar). I have a taste for slow-burn, angst, and fluff. You have been warned.None of
these feature the death of Kylo or Hux, underage, or non-con between Kylo Ren and Hux. (There are mentions of past non-con in one and another features dub-con. Read your tags!)Please share if you like and also add your own recs/fics (I love getting new things to read!).
MODERN AUs
Ground Rule by mythbusterposey. I don’t even get baseball, but this AU is incredible. Slow burn and much angst and fluff. Hux is 34 and Ben is 19. The characterization is beautiful.
Anchors by
HandsAcrossTheSea. Part of a series. Hux is a CEO (with the best car ever) and Kylo is his former-porn-star, tattoo artist husband. Ridiculously hot (and the porniest on this list by a long way).Act of Violence and
Consequence by hedgerowhag. Lawyer Hux and former criminal Kylo grudgingly admitting their feelings for one another. Another with wonderful characterization.Beauty
Beneath by dallystrings (@r2dameron). Hux and Ben have been friends for a decade. When Hux accompanies Ben home for Leia’s birthday
and pretends to be his boyfriend, angst,
pining, and feelings ensue. Featuring adorably oblivious Hux.SW-VERSE AUs
Silence of the Room
by hedgerowhag. This one is different – Snoke has imprisoned Hux and light-side Ben Solo. Torture, angst, mostly pre-slash.To The Pure by
K_dAzrael (@kdazrael) This one has a lot of kudos (and it is actually on one of the lists I read), but I haven’t seen people talking about it enough, because I want us all to talk about it! It is NOT what you expect from a
Hux/Knights of Ren orgy. The depiction
of the knights is strange and mystical and entirely compelling (it has become my new head canon for them).Ex Machina by sual. Hux is a droid here and his motivations are completely
plausible. Ben Solo never went dark, but
he’s not quite right either – he is a social outcast and he has a thing for robots. Unexpectedly, this a very sweet love story. (And now I have a kink for droid!Hux.) There is past non-con between Hux/others.Shadows and Stained Glass by Hollo (@itsdetachable). I never thought “tentacle fluff” would be a tag. Kylo goes deep into the dark side and becomes a Lovecraftian Eldritch horror and it’s … super sweet? Really. It’s gorgeously descriptive and there is some beautiful imagery of Kylo with stars in his hair.
Caviar and Cigarettes by ravaged_by_fandom. Because we all need some Kylo Amidala in our lives! Sweet and hot! Almost-public sex plus outfits! What’s not to love?
CRACK
Veridis Quo by
neon_bible (@a-sweater-poorly-knit). I used to write crack before neon_bible out-cracked me for all time and murdered my muse with this masterpiece (may you rest in eternal depravity, space babies). Ren is a complete slob of a manchild who subsists on protein powder and sour patch kids and Hux
is, well, Hux (with a trapper keeper!). Hux accompanies Ren to a First
Order weapons convention and all hell (and smut) breaks loose. I can’t even do this justice – just
go read it. (There is also a sequel, because crack this good just won’t die.)The Handler by imperatrixxx (@xanthippe-in-the-snow). OK, putting one of my own on here, because I am shameless. It begins with Hux and Kylo in a competition to decide who gets to tie up whom and just goes downhill from there. It is ridiculous Mikylux crack-fluff featuring frat-boy knights of Ren and Space Princess Mitaka, and I should be ashamed (but I am not).
CANON-COMPLIANT-ISH (what
is the name for this?)You Can’t Blame
Gravity by Gigi_Sinclair. Hux
has been sentenced to death, but Kylo has other ideas. I love this most of all for Chewbacca’s
response to Ben (post-TFA). I will never write that scene, because this author did it so perfectly. The Cold Feeling by neon_bible (@a-sweater-poorly-knit). Kylo Ren returns home and begins to fall in love with Poe Dameron, but is haunted by his past and in particular his relationship with Hux. There is SO MUCH ANGST. The psychology is fully explored and beautifully written. (There is some dub-con between Poe and Ren in one chapter.)
Things you Don’t do at
Home Come Naturally on the Floor by AetherBunny. Hux
gives Ren dance lessons. The author is a dance instructor, so the descriptions are fantastic. The series is hot and
fluffy and gorgeous. Someone do some fan art of this already!Don’t Fade Away by MargaretKire. Fluffy
slow burn with plot. Hux is cold and Snoke is even more sinister than usual. The plot is original and compelling and there is lots of angsty goodness.
